
The Story
At 8:00 p.m. on June 28, 1950, Mr. Antônio Amador gathered at his residence his colleagues Walter Cosme, Armindo Ramos, Alexandre Alves de Oliveira, Waldomiro Diefenthaeler, Rodolpho Schiffur and the ladies Nair Amador, Norma Ramos and Nelly Corrêa.
The gathering of the aforementioned people at the invitation of Mr. Antônio Amador had the purpose of founding a Spiritist Society, based on the Doctrine codified by Allan Kardec, a long-standing intention of Mr. Amador and known to all those present.
At the suggestion of Mr. Walter Cosme, it was decided to give the name “Spiritist Society Irmão Ismael”, with headquarters at 90 Alegrete Street, Vila Niterói, Canoas.
The first board of directors was formed as follows:

Vice-President – Alexandre Alves de Oliveira
1st Secretary – Rodolpho Schiffur
2nd Secretary – Armindo Ramos
1st Treasurer – Waldomiro Diefenthaeler
2nd Treasurer – Antonio Amador
Librarian – Bento Serafim dos Santos
Supervisory Board – Norma Ramos, Nelly Corrêa and Euclides Martins
At the inauguration of the House, the president in his speech established the objective and purpose of the institution by stating that: “The House of Irmão Ismael would have its doors open to anyone who finds themselves in need, within the material field or those who, due to disappointments suffered, feel the need to undertake new struggles for their spiritual improvement”.
The Spiritual Leaders of the House of Ismael are: Bezerra de Menezes and Cacique de Barros.
On December 15, 1950, the 1st Christmas Event took place, with the distribution of clothes, sweets and toys to 500 children, and this event was reported in several newspapers in Porto Alegre. Until then, Casa de Ismael had never failed to hold a Christmas party and received approximately 250 children, providing an afternoon of great fun and distribution of gifts donated by the community, companies, students and employees.
